The Academy of Business Administration and Public Management Nuremberg [Verwaltungs- und Wirtschafts-Akademie (VWA)] is a privately operated non-profit institution in Bavaria. It offers three different programs, which, when successfully completed, lead to the following degrees: "VWA-Betriebswirt" (Graduate in business administration), "VWA-Verwaltungsbetriebswirt" (Graduate in public management) and "VWA-Informatikbetriebswirt" (Graduate in information technology and business administration). The VWA Diploma program provides an alternative to full-time courses at university. All participants continue to be in regular employment and attend the program on weekday evenings. They receive economic, management and legal knowledge which is often supplemented with information and communication skills, aspects of political and social science and languages. Both lectures and practices, held by mainly university professors, college teachers and experienced practitioners, require high scientific standards, which cultivate methodical and critical mindsets. Furthermore, the VWA offers courses with main focus, for example, on Real Estate Economics, Computer Literacy and Business English. Applicants seeking entry to the VWA Diploma program have to be business persons, technicians, engineers or municipal officials who have completed their vocational training plus a certain number of years working in business or public sector. Lectures continue over three years, including several test each semester, and end with the final exam, which reviews the economic and legal knowledge acquired in those three years. Students with main focus on information technology in addition have to master their exam in their computer science classes, such as programming and data protection. Since 1950 more than 5.900 students have graduated from the VWA Nuremberg. Until today they have proved to be excellent staff, especially for private enterprises or local government. Their knowledge of business and law combined with several years of practical experience, their eagerness to perform on a high level, and their proven capacity for stress highly recommends VWA graduates to be entrusted with executive functions.
